Downsides to Vampires: Edward is Beautiful

I was actually quite enjoying the first novel in the TWILIGHT series despite several issues. (For instance, the main character Bella is in the hospital and describes the bloodied bandage on a kids’ head in detail with NO problems. Then, several chapters later she almost faints at the THOUGHT of a pin-drop of blood… WTF!?) I was just enjoying the voice enough that I plunged on in spite of my problems with it.

And then Edward sparkled.

You see, there’s a bit of a mini mystery in the book about what happens to Vampires in the sunlight. And when main Vamp Edward decides to show protagonist Bella what happens, there’s a MOMENT of hope. Seriously, Bella turns around and can’t find Eddie. I’m thinking, “COOL! Sunlight turns him invisible!” But then… But then she finds him and…

And…and…

Well, he… he glittered.

At that point, I carefully closed the book, put it down, and proceeded to laugh my ass off.

I haven’t picked the book back up since then. I DO still plan on finishing it, but…

I just needed a break after that.
